Hello,
We have imported stills into Cortex (v5.3.1 b18346) to use as a color reference. With no LUT or color graded applied to our live image we toggle to the reference still and the image is what to be expected. Once we apply a Output (or an Input) LUT to our live image and toggle to our still it looks as if the base LUT is also applied to your reference still. Giving the imported still a look as if it is double LUTed.
Thanks for the information. This looks like a bug. We will provide a fix shortly.
Hi Hans,
We loaded up build v5.3.1 b18471 and are experiencing the same issue in regards to imported stills. We created a new project, tried different media and still with the same result.
Hi Jonathan,
Just to clarify a few thingsâŚ
Are the stills that you imported just regular graphics files, e.g. .DPX or .JPG, and not one of the .STILL files that can also be exported from Cortex?
Do you have any display LUT selected in delivery config that youâre using to view the image (probably the âPreviewâ config)?
When you are viewing a normal clip, with either a color correction, input LUT, or output LUT applied, and then play a still by selecting it in the still store and pressing the âNâ key, that still should be displayed without any of your current color correction or LUTs applied. The bug we fixed was causing the correction or LUTs to be applied even when viewing the still. It sounds like youâre experiencing something different that we havenât reproduced here yet.

We are using a jpg file that we had previously exported from the cortex.

No. We do not have any kind of Display LUT on our âPreviewâ config

Everything is working fine when Iâm toggling (âNâ key) between media and a still we have taken during our current session. Once we import a reference still into our current session and select it the LUT/grade is applied to the imported still. Before we apply any LUT or color correct the imported still looks correct. Once we use a LUT or any color correction it applies it to both the media and imported still. Here are the steps we are taking.
1. right clicking in the âStill Storeâ window and select on âImport StillsâŚâ Find our reference still and Open. Apply our scaling (None). Enter.
2. Within the Cortex select the Imported Stills pulldown and locate our newly imported reference still.
3. Toggling (âNâ key) between our media with a LUT and grade applied and the imported reference still.
Hi Jonathan,
So we did find some conditions under which the previous fix wouldnât necessarily work. Hereâs a new build that should finally resolve it in your case.
Hi Jonathan,
Just checking in, did this last build fix the issue?
Hi Peter,
Thank you for checking in. Yes this build fixed the issue. We appreciate the quick turnaround on this.
Hi Peter,
Can we circle back to this issue. We are having an issue (w/ Base LUT applied to a clip) when we try importing a âSet Stillâ with the FULL ->SMPTE or SMPTE-.FULL selected. The Base Output LUT is being applied to the newly imported still. If NONE is selected it works perfectly fine. (No Base LUT is getting applied)
We are currently using Cortex v5.3.1 b18583
Hi Jonathan,
We will investigate and let you know what we find.
Hi Jonathan,
Weâre not able to duplicate this issue. When importing stills from, say, a JPG file, the image can be scaled up or down slightly before being saved to disk if FULL->SMPTE or SMPTE->FULL is selected, but that choice isnât saved anywhere, nor do we change the alpha channel of the imported still, if there is one.
When playing back a still that was imported from a JPG, any LUT that has been currently set as an Input or Output LUT, or any current primary color correction, will not be applied to the still as itâs viewed. Any Display LUT that was selected in the current viewing config WILL be applied, regardless if youâre playing back a still or just viewing your source clip.
HI Jonathan,
After getting a similar bug report from another customer I think we were able to duplicate the issue youâre having. Hereâs a new build that should address it. It wonât help with stills that have already been imported, but it should fix the problem going forward.
