New in v 1.5: Using the Copy Tool

The Copy Tool has a simple interface that allows each job to specify a single source (such as a camera card) and up to three target destinations. One of these destinations, marked as Primary, should be the primary storage of the CORTEX Dailies system or internal storage of the CORTEX CarryOn. The remaining two destinations can be shared storage, attached storage, shuttle drives or LTO drives (using LTFS).

Each copy job can generate optional MD5 Checksums for verification. These checksums will be available in any Manifest file created from the job.

Creating a Copy Job

  1. Within a new or existing Job, click New Copy Job

  2. Use the Browse () button to define your Source (camera card, shuttle drive, etc)

  3. Define your Primary Destination (Local or main storage location)

  4. Define additional backup locations

  5. It is recommended to check Copy To Primary First (see below)

  6. Check Verify copies using MD5 checksums to generate checksums and verify each copy

  7. Check Import files to Clip bin after Offload if you would like to load files into the CORTEX Dailies job to color, sync and/or transcode

Copy To Primary First

CORTEX Dailies can speed up camera card offload using the Copy To Primary First option. When checked, CORTEX will make one copy from the camera card to the destination designated Primary, then all remaining backups will be read from the Primary copy, rather than re-reading off the card.

This will free up the card slot to offload more cards sooner and will speed up the backup copy process so it will finish sooner.

It is recommended to also use Verify copies using MD5 checksums to ensure data integrity.

Verify Jobs

You can create a Verify Job to reconcile media that already exists locally (and so does not need to be copied) against a CORTEX Manifest file.

To create a Verify Job, set up a Copy Job as usual, but leave all Destinations blank.
